Long live Gyanendra, King Of Nepal

Trip back to Kentucky - Part 1

I had an idea I had a lot to accomplish during my trip back to Kentucky, but did not know what a roller coaster ride it was going to be. August 18 was my last day of summer internship. My supervisor threw me and and intern, a surprise farewell lunch. I had the last California meal of the day, so of course it was deliciously Mexican. I was to fly to New York to pickup a car and drive it to Kentucky. So I also planned to visit some of the large cities on the way out of curiosity. My flight was at 10:30 and I was on schedule to get to the airport by 9:00 PM. 9:00 PM came and I was on my way. I remembered the way to the airport so I thought I would know it like the back of my hand. I wa sorely mistaken. By and by, the Gish Road exit came which I remembered was near the airport exit, so I kept motoring on. 1 exit, 2 exit , 3 exit and no airport exit! By now it was 9:30 and I passed the "Oakland City Limit" sign. I vaguely remember Oakland on the map being far away from San Jose. I was gettin anxious. I told myself to keep quite and concentrate on the road lest I should get into an accident. At 9:45 I swung into a pizza place and walked in on a bunch of Bangladeshi or Pakistani workers chattering away with no apparent customers or work in sight.
Me: "Where is the airport".
Them: "Which airport?".
Me (getting very worried): "San Jose Airport".
Them: "Go on 880 South"
Me: (And I was going on 880 N past the airport all the time): "Thanks!"
Them: (Aside, among themselved): "Veeery polite"
I became aware of the increased adrenaline flow in my bloodstream. Urged myself calm and drove the opposite direction. The bright red neon dial glowed 9:55 PM by now. I gave the Grand Prix more gas and it reponded with increased growling and purring. After an eternity when two 18 wheelers in front of me keep moving at a slow pace of 60 mph, I zinged past them at 10:10 PM onto the San Jose airport's rental car return lot. After dropping of the car at Budget's lot, I was driven to the United terminal by the helpful minder of cars. Time: 10:15. I carried 100 pounds of baggage in my two hands and sprinted towards the check in terminal. A sign at the United terminal quitely announced flyers had to "check in 40 minutes prior to departure". The entire journey to the airport whirred in my mind like a stale episode of "24 hours" (or whatever the TV series that starrs Kiefer Sutherland is)
